    [San Fernando] Nido Soup at Kawbin's in La Union

    So, this is so-so. Guess what I've found! It is nido soup! Nah! This is not a milk that you sip... then consider it soup? Nah! Absolutely nah! I was scouting several restaurants along Quezon Avenue in San Fernando City, La Union until I noticed a restaurant called Kawbin's. The gutom story starts here.
     

    About Nido Soup

    In fact, I've been hearing about this nido soup already whenever I go to caves, already, then already. Bongga! Bahahaha! Usually, my guides tell me that these caves are where the nido soup is coming from, as in, there are birds staying in these caves that produce the raw materials in making this soup. So what is that raw material? Get ready!! *drumroll* -- It is SALIVAAAAAA! As in saliva and that is so ewwwyyy.

    So they take the hardened saliva of the birds from their nest. True story! I've met people who have risked their lives climbing for bird's nest inside the caves to get the raw material. And you know, this is expensive. You know. Just so you know. That's why many are motivated to take the risk. Bow!

    What else? Tastes good of course but expect that the consistency is like a saliva too. Are you willing to take that? Hmmm. In this restaurant, they mixed it with quail eggs and generally, it tasted like lomi, or close to that.

    Cost: 80 pesos for small bowl

    This is a popular Chinese food because the Chinese believe it can increase libido, Nukkks! This is quite expensive but in a Chinese restaurant called Kawbin's where I ate this, a small bowl of the soup costs 80 pesos. So that's so palagutom, cheap at below 100 pesos.




    Where to eat this, aber?

    So yes, as I am talking about, I ate this in Kawbin's located along Quezon Avenue of the city of San Fernando in La Union near North Mandarin Hotel. They are open from 8am up tp 9 pm. They usually offer Chinese food.

    Gutom Intro

    Wooot Wuuut! Wooot! Halu everybody! So what about Ginitaan? Ssome call it "Ginataan" but it seems so Tagalog-y? In Vigan, we pronouce that as Gi-nit-ta-an. This is actually an Ilocano cuisine that I found in one of the restaurants in San Fernando City, La Union! Bongga!




    About Ginitaan

    This is actually a popular snack in Ilocandia and rare in fine dining restaurants. But one day when I was looking for a place to eat in San Fernando City, La Union, I found a restaurant just near the city plaza. I'm not sure if this is a fine dining restaurant though! Hahaha... 

    All I know was, the restaurant looked so attractive but when I looked for what food there offer, they only sell common food that are not so fine dining-y. So what is Ginataan!!!! Answer! -- This is a colloidal Ilocano merienda (colloidal due to the flour) mixed usually with kamote (the root crop type we call in Ilocano as kamotit), cassava, sago (those little cute gelatinous balls mixed in halo-halo) and another flour shaped with sphere. Yes, as in flour balls. And... don't forget the coconut milk. When I say cocout milk, this is not the buko water that comes out inside the shell when you break it. I am referring to the white extracts coming out from the grated or ground coconut meat.



    Cost: 25 pesos


    As usual, Palagutom Boy loves eating food below 100 pesos. So this is so swak na swak sa bulsa (translation: so act, nah! so act, so bull so). Usually, this is sold in carinderia at an amount of 10 to 15 pesos. Sometimes it is free where you are "close friends" with your neighbor who sells it. But since the restaurant's ambiance and class is more than a carinderia, then 25 pesos is good!



    Where to eat this, aber?

    I found this food in Cafe Esperanza near the city plaza of San Fernando and Mabanag Hall. They are open from 7 am to 7 pm. They usually serve snacks.

    No need to be rich with thousands in your pocket just to try to dine sosyal in a pa-sosyal restaurant in La Union called Halo-Halo de Iloko. You know, Palagutom Boy is very poor that he can only afford to eat cheap food with price from 100 pesos and below and he found what he is looking for in La Union. An affordable yet sulit halo-halo priced with only 140 pesos. It was big and it can be good for 3 (so it is about 45 pesos per head per share) unless if you have a huge appetite like Palagutom Boy.

    So if you read my previous post, you will be aware why I am featuring these foods below. When I became gutom (that's the Tagalog for hungry, and so what?) in La Union, I looked for an affordable yet sulit food in Halo-Halo de Iloko and the first one that caught my attention is the Buko Halo-Halo Fiesta for 140 pesos which is good for 2-3 persons..

    So this is what we ate for lunch with my palagutom buddy who happens to be oh-so poorer than me, and also happened to be my bro, my younger bro. I know I look younger :p

    Ayun! Don't worry these foods are both less than 100 pesos per single order with drinks and a good cup of rice. Don't ask me the taste because they are all excellent! No regrets!

    That ends my La Union food trip. It was cheap but pa-sosyal ang peg. That's why Palagutom Boy, the poor food blogger felt like he was very rich dining here. In fact, he is poor!

    Waaaaaah! I can't believe I am writing a new post again. Awww! Bow-wow-wow! Meowww! Oink Oink! Moooooo!!! Because I love the animals, and I eat "some" animals, I want to greet you like the animals do. Hihihi!

    And guess what? Palagutom Boy is getting sosyal OMG! Can you imagine that Boy Palagutom dined in a sosyal restaurant in La Union that is considered to be a tourist attraction in the city of San Fernando? You know, I feel so mayaman eating in that restaurant with all the customers speaking English and Tagalog. I also tried to speak English but my nose bled that's why I did not eat dinuguan this time. Hohoho! I thank you bow!

    Ok, this will be a restaurant review. I don't usually do restaurant review but this time I want to review and it is nice to have a reviewer, lol!

    And oh yeah!!! Napanganga ako sa ganda inside. As in inside and not outside (although it is beautiful outside). It just so happened that I asked myself "Mahangin ba sa labas?"

    So for you to understand what I mean, I accidentally (yes, accidentally) captured a photo outside the restaurant. Kung bakit accidental ay hindi ko alam sabay kanta, "Huwag mo nang itanong sa akin. Hindi ko rin naman sasabihin." At bawal kantahin! Kahit sa isipan mo lang bawal basahin na iniisip ang melody. Hahaha!

    There you have it! The blue-colored Halo-Halo de Iloko and it is not red, what do you think? Let's go back inside because it's so mahangin na outside.

    The ambiance inside Halo-Halo de Iloko is oh-so-nice! Inside is dim ang effect. There are no spotlight or traffic light inside, only dim lights that make the ambiance inside so relaxing to the point that I want to sleep and not to eat, Hihi!

    Halo-Halo de Iloko loves animals. There are also aquariums placed at the windows but I wasn't able to take photos of those because I am afraid of aquariums, Chos!

    Doggie, non-living thing, display, an object made from metal or... slumdog millionaire? Welcome daw oh! Thanks naman! Nakaka-touch ka, so what is your stand about the downward trend of the Chinese Economy you doggie? Hindi sumagot eh. At nakita kong nag-nosebleed din ang display na ito ng konti. Konti lang. eh?

    That's it! The restaurant is located along Zandueta Street, San Fernando, La Union! Yey! (Ano ang kinalaman ng Yey?).

    At kung maka-smile naman ang cute cute niya! Kiligggg!! Ehem, may kokontra ba? Baka gusto mong masaktan? :p

    Of course, golf course, we ate here and I won't give up earning 100 pesos for every single food that I will buy. So what we ate here? It should be less than 100-peso-expense per single food per head. And below is a teaser.

    That's just one of the foods we ate. Teaser lang yan ano ba.
