[Baguio] Going Retro at Jim's Retro Diner

What's up mga Palagutom and Patay Gutom! Ahhh... I will be sharing to you a not-so-fresh post (because it's been 100 years since the things happened in this post you are reading happened. Uhh, may ganun? Ang raming happen-happen na nalalaman, Bwahaha! Hihihi! Ayan tuloy, napalagay ako ng hyphen. (Tama ba ang ispeling? Haha)

Anyway highway, lemme give you a brief review of Baguio City's Jim's Retro Diner located along the Session Road. Well, asking who is the one at the photo, it is my emo brother, that's not me. (So ano ngayon ang problema ko? LOL!)

Well, wishing well bowel, at lahat ng gustong maging well, I wish you well, Chos! I was actually hungry and it is turning 6 pm, about to go home to my hometown and that is about 5-6 hours trip more from Baguio but we still had no plans to go home. May balak kaming mag-hotel sa bus 'tol, air-con din 'yon!

Until I wanted to try to eat on a restaurant along Session Road. But of course golf course, I am so nervous that the money placed in my pocket is not mag-kasya. You know, I am poor, as poor as you. LOL! Hihihi!.

But with all the courage, inspired by our national heroes who fought for our freedom (anung connect?) I said, "Who the heck are you to make your restaurant soooo expensive that I can not afford?!!" Sabay tawa ng malakas, bwahahahaah! Pero hindi ko sinabi sa kanila yun, sinabi ko lang sa harap ng salamin sa may C.R. Practice lang and practice makes perfect, LOL!

Ayan, hindi pa ako nag-uumpisa sa restaurant review at marami na naman akong nasabing mga bagay na walang kwenta, haha!

My bro, after climbing the stair going to the road, because we came from a basement

Actually we walked at the full length of Session Road side by side to look for a cheap restaurant but everyone just looked sosyal lahat and it makes me nervous of being not able to go home because of being unable to pay for my bus ride dahil pinanbili ng mahal na pagkain, SAKLAP!

We actually walked for 3 times along Session Road tip to tip. Buti nalang hindi parang EDSA ang kahaba ng Session Road. For our 3rd alay-lakad to death effect attempt, I saw a restaurant and it is not located along the road mismo but it is located "below" the road. Rwarr!

The name is Jim's Retro Diner. Located at the basement of a building along Session Road, eto pa talaga yung napili namin. Well, hindi dahil sa ito ang napili namin ay ibig sabihin hindi siya sosyal. Hehe. It looks cozy naman however at medyo palihim ang location, LOL!

As I step downward (variation ng step forward, kasi pababa kami, hihi), I was hearing a retro beat. And it was Elvis Presley's signature songs. Retrong-retro talaga ang peg!

Inside are pictures of your favorite retro stars. Well, I am not a fan of retro-retro but I find this restaurant interesting.

Of course, we tried to find a cheap food here, as cheap as me. Hehe. Did we find a cheap food of less than 100 pesos? Yes of course!

This is what we ate: Ok before you raise your eyebrows, the full details about this food is written here. Click Here, or else I will click you, LOL!

    Yang

So that's it. Personally, the restaurant is a nice choice if you want something that is quiet with a retro touch. Oh! Don't forget to wear your retro dress if you want to maximize the resto-effect. LOL!

[Baguio] 75pesos: Affordable Yang Chow Rice

"Palagutom boy was about to see many restaurants in Session Road and he got frightened that he might starve to death because every restaurant he sees looked like offering an expensive food. I have fear of expensive food."

If you happen to crave for Yang Chow Rice and you are currently in Baguio City, the Palagutom boy has found an affordable place to eat in Baguio City the summer capital along the busy Session Road. At 75pesos with ice tea included and large-sized  Yang Chow Rice  with fully air-conditioned restaurant in retro setting and free wi-fi, that's solved!

The traveling gutom has landed in Baguio City for another mission. He was so hungry for his walking tour again (yes, I can't afford to spend money for taxi but to use my feet, lol).

Because of tiredness, he again explored the length of Session Road in Baguio city to look for a good-looking, sosyal-looking and fine-looking restaurant with cheap food. Palagutom boy was about to see many restaurants in Session Road and he got frightened that he might starve to death because every restaurant he sees looked like offering an expensive food. "I have fear of expensive food," Palagutom Boy said to himself.

After almost an hour Kris-crossing Session Road, Palagutom Boy bravely entered a restaurant called Jimm's Retro Diner and to tell you, just entering the restaurant, you will really feel the retro ambiance.

Elvis Presley is singing at the background and he is the star of this day. He also got several photos displayed inside the restaurant and I just wonder if this restaurant is owned by Elvis Presley, just kidding!

Ok, I courageously entered the restaurant in retro, sited for a while and waited for the waiter to give me the list of food to order. And yes!!!! I saw a rice meal with drinks at 75pesos! Solved!

The food we ordered with my younger bro was  Yang Chow Rice . The size was just enough for regular appetite. In layman's term,  Yang Chow Rice  could mean Fried Rice, and yeah, it is fried rice by the way added with some spices and anything that can be added. For this version, there was a butter mixed and it was already about to go dark when we ate here and telling you, it is not breakfast! Just kiddin' boy!

Ok, just a warning, if you hate butter that much especially eating it for dinner and not breakfast, never try this suggestion of mine -  Yang Chow Rice  + Butter + Night Time = What I did, it might disappoint you.

But if you love butter to the extent that you eat butter almost everyday of your life, you have found a jackpot!

Anyway, have I mentioned that this  Yang Chow Rice  has butter yet? Well, when you taste this, the "buttery" smell and taste is evident and I find it soooo delicious! Sadly, my brother hated it leading me say to the waiter, "Kuya pabalot."

I ate my bro's  Yang Chow Rice  when we got home. Well that's it. The Palagutom Boy has traveled to Baguio City and at Session Road, this is his discovery.

[Baguio] Benguet Strawberries are not Real Berries

"...for readers' sake, strawberries are not real berries but they are more closely related to rose [an ornamental plant] than berries."

The province of Benguet, being a province located up high the mountains, it can be a host for plants that prefer a temperate weather. The traveling gutom has landed to Baguio City in Benguet  and has found another treat with this lovely strawberries - fruit bearing plants that love the cool atmosphere.

In my way searching and verifying stories, I found out these strawberries in Mine's View Park of Baguio City.

There are a lot of strawberry stores in Baguio I know, because many friends of mine tell me about that but it was my first time to see these strawberries in bundle in person. Whoaah! It was such a very memorable experience to see these strawberries.

The look of these strawberries were very inviting because they look so delicious and juicy being a first timer to encounter those. A lot were displayed at the stalls in Mine's View Park and it was not really easy to ignore those!

Benguet province is really blessed with a cold temperature that it is capable of hosting plants that only grown in countries with four seasons.

However, for readers' sake, strawberries are not real berries but they are more closely related to rose [an ornamental plant] than berries.

It is very unbelievable that strawberries are not considered berries. In contrary, eggplant, which we consider a vegetable, is not actually a vegetable, but it is a certified true-blooded berry.

So if someone asks you, "Which is berry, strawberry or eggplant?" You gotta answer, "eggplant!" With that, you'll be very correct. Supposed to be you're in a game show, you have surely won the grand prize for that grand question.

Now we know that strawberries are not berries, they are actually called fragaria." The fleshy and edible part of the fruit is actually called a "receptacle" and not a fruit. It is a receptacle to reiterate it and the dots at the skin of the fruit is not a seed, it is called "conceptacles."

I repeat, fragaria has no seeds. Anyway, whatever name this fruit is called, it has been painted in my mind, heart and soul that this fruit is a strawberry and the dots at the skin is the seed. And I must say, I don't know fragaria, but I know strawberries.

So, all strawberries in the world including those in Benguet are not berries!
