[Feature] Chocolate Sundae: Jollibee's Cheap Dessert

"Jollibee's chocolate sundae is smooth and creamier in my taste buds compared to McDonald's."

One reason I want hanging out at Jollibee is because of their Sundae-in-cup which is more popularly known as chocolate sundae (although there have been other versions).

    Jollibee sundae
For a palagutom like me, having this cheap food at hand is already a big deal!

That is 25pesos man! I can already afford that! Aside from the fact that I love sweets, I also love the price.

I am glad Jollibee has made it cheaper because few years back, their chocolate sundae was around 30 pesos while McDonald's remain low at 25 pesos.

Jollibee's chocolate sundae is smooth and creamier in my taste buds compared to McDonald's. The chocolate syrup really blend good with it.

So Jollibee, please keep the price low, or lower, hehe.

[Narvacan] My Misery and Disappointment at Mang Inasal Narvacan

"The Bangus Sisig was placed on a hot sizzling plate but when I tasted the food OMG, it was cold!"

Palagutom Kid did not eat his breakfast and even lunch because he has decided to dine somewhere in the town of Narvacan in Ilocos Sur. Skipping two meals, could you just imagine how I crave for food and I am expecting to eat a lot in Narvacan this time because of my hungry condition. I found Mang Inasal branch at the Narvacan Mall in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.

I was also very thirsty and I was craving for any ice dessert especially their halo-halo which is my favorite. My expectation to have a voracious appetite turned to be a misery from the time I started ordering food.

I ordered Pork Sisig with unlimited rice (99pesos) but the lady at the counter said in vernacular, "It is not available." Well that was fine so I ordered another food.

Next, I am craving for the halo-halo and the lady said again, "Sir our ice crusher isn't working." I raised my eye brows and looked around, uh, everyone is eating halo-halo and how come the ice crusher isn't working to me!

So the lady asked me, "What is your drinks sir."

"Just give me service water," I replied in irritated mode. So what is the use that I am going to order those drinks she was offering the fact that there is no ice crusher? Better drink water.

After I ordered the food the lady again asked me if I am willing to wait for the food for 8 minutes. I agreed with her.

After 15 minutes, there was still no food and I am so hungry since I skipped two meals just to have huge appetite in this town destination where I am now being a traveling gutom.

What else? Since I am very thirsty, I went back to the counter to order sorbetes (19pesos, I ordered 2) but I was waiting at the counter for about two minutes because no one ever seemed to see me and to entertain me considering they don't have many customers this time while some of the crew members are just sitting in one corner while two industrious crew members (one is maybe a trainee because he wears white shirt) are busy cleaning the tables and serving food!

After about two minutes of waiting at the counter, the lady asked me if I have 3pesos because my money was 100pesos, for that I will give 103pesos and she'll change me with 65. I said, I have nothing so she just gave me 60pesos and marked my receipt with number 2 and she encircled it so I am expecting that they will hand me the two pesos later on.

After waiting for 20 minutes from what they had promised as 8 minutes, our order came. I ordered Bangus Sisig instead and Pork Liempo for my brother.

The Bangus Sisig was placed on a hot sizzling plate but when I tasted the food OMG, it was cold! So what the heck they gave me a sizzling plate when the only one that is hot is the rice and the bangus sisig is COLD!

I just enjoyed the food and there is no way of turning back since I am ultra-hungry. However, I love the bangus sisig but it was just ironical that it is placed on a hot sizzling plate "with matching steam" yet the food is cold.

Before leaving the restaurant, I was waiting for the two-peso change but no one came to give it to me after an ample time of waiting :(

[La Trinidad] Mission Failed at McDonald's La Trinidad, Benguet

"I was actually hesitant if I will be publishing this post or not because it was a failure on my part but I realized, I have also to share these things to learn from our mistakes and for others to know also what to avoid or not."

Yes, I have been reassuring my readers that all single meals featured in this blog is below 100 pesos or less than 2 dollars. But with my recent trip to La Trinidad, Benguet, my extreme hunger due to a tiring walking tour in the town has made me so exhausted that I wasn't able to decide well and just had to order a food that is easy to wait and that's why I failed with my mission this day.

McDonald's La Trinidad Benguet with the Mountains at the back

With my goal of featuring "sulit" foods in the country on a lower price, it is my first time to fail for this blog.

I was actually hesitant if I will be publishing this post or not because it was a failure on my part but I realized, I have also to share these things to learn from our mistakes and for others to know also what to avoid or not.

In fact, I was on a travel challenge for myself by traveling to 3 provinces for 1 day in looking for great yet cheap foods.

For that day, I ventured to Benguet, La Union and Candon City (in Ilocos Sur). I have to maximize my time.

But as I was doing a walking tour in La Trinidad, Benguet, I got so tired and exhausted. I was able to see a McDonald's branch in La Trinidad where I have eaten my lunch.

I ordered a chicken and a spaghetti in one worth 106 pesos and that was 7 pesos more than the goal. I supposed not to include any drinks but the crew has told me that whether or not I will claim the drinks, the prize is still the same.

So to be fair on my part, I just took the softdrinks although I have no plans to drink that.

I think not giving you a chance to exclude soft drinks in your meal for a lesser price is very unfair. Although it is a combo meal, the customer must always have the chance to exclude what he wants as long as the item is a totally different product.

That's why I blame McDonald's for this (sorry, Haha) because I have failed for this mission. If the prize of the soft drinks should have been subtracted even for only 7 pesos, I should have triumphed for the 99 pesos. Sadly, that was the rule of this fastfood branch.

In fact, I have begged the crew to just cancel the order and purchase a cheaper meal but the crew just told me that she has already entered it at the cash registry.

Well, the golden arch in this part of La Trinidad in Benguet has just taught me a lesson.

So next time I'll be going to fast foods like McDonald's better think 7X even you are hungry or else you'll be financially damaged like me who is a budget eater.

[Feature] Square Doughnut: The Doughnut without a Hole

"...what is interesting here is that the filling of one square doughnut consists of two flavors on which you don't have to buy two different kinds just to fulfill your cravings..."

After the success of the Bavarian doughnut of the popular doughnut store chain in the Philippines called Mister Donut, they have made a new version and this one has no hole at the middle. It is purely square but not the usual doughnut because a hole is missing.

Square Doughnut with two flavors, classic and mocha

Of course, this blog aims every hungry tummy to get satisfied with cheap foods not more expensive than 100 pesos and this one is good in your budget while satisfying your tummy.

This square doughnut is a variation of the Bavarian doughnut. The Mister Donut store has just made an innovation making new products with a different presentation.

It still has the flavor of our favorite Bavarian Doughnuts which includes the classic, chocolate, mocha, strawberry, etc. However, what is interesting here is that the filling of one square doughnut has two flavors on which you don't have to buy two different kinds just to fulfill your cravings because this is already two is to one ratio.

[Candelaria] Jollibee Breakfast in Candelaria, Quezon

"I just can't really explain the feeling why there is always an excitement when it is my first time to eat in a Jollibee branch in a new place that I went through. But when eating in a Jollibee at home, it is very usual."

In the Philippines, I love the business idea that Jollibee must be everywhere. The fastfood giant, is really making a great and very presence of appearance in every single key town and in cities. If we look for somewhere to eat on the event that we have been into a new place, Jollibee is always the trusted brand if ever there is a branch therein.

[Bantay] Shakey's JTC Mall: I Love the Sexy Ambiance!

"This is it. This is now the real fight and I admit, I lost the war. My stomach wasn't able to accommodate the weapons of the food."

Thanks to my friend! She came all the way from Canada to the Philippines to get married. We have not been seeing in person for almost 2 years now and gladly she went home and it is her time to treat us. The traveling gutom landed to Shakey's Pizza House in JTC Mall, Bantay, Ilocos Sur. So, what is so sexy here? Well, continue reading.

With the dim setting lighted by glorious light chandelier in different colors, I am loving the inviting ambiance of this Shakey's branch.

It is not too crowded. Somehow, quiet and peaceful. The background plays the jazz music which makes me feel I am so special this time.

Besides, all I need is to relax because the expenses are all courtesy of my friend Rhea. I don't have to pressure my self. I just focused on what I will eat this day.

Oh! The sound system at the background continues to play soulful music that relaxes me more, not to mention my excitement because of the big meal waiting for me.

And yes, the crew is coming bearing the weight of that huge Hawaiian Pizza in family size! Wow! Come on! This is a big fight and guess who will survive...

My friend Rhea is really very generous today that she actually treated us in full force. The Hawaiian pizza is absolutely a mouth-watering food with all the cheese melted at the surface, the bacon and all those stuffs. It just makes me say wow!

Together with the bottomless ice tea, I was also pampered with a high dosage of spaghetti, a food I also crave every now and then.

I just needed to be cautious with the deceiving power of the bottomless ice tea because it could make me full. It can't fool and full me. I know my strategy. Haha.

Wait there's more, and I just can't take this anymore, there is another big bucket of chicken with potatoes and I am now in panic mode. I am afraid I can't taste them all.

"'Twas a yummy tender chicken. I also love the potato add-on, it was like a French fries in a huge grand cut!

And more still came with this garlic bread. It was a li'l bit toasted and of course, it was garlicky which really very amazing. When I tasted this, another food favorite has been added to my list of hundreds  again.

This is it. This is now the real fight and I admit, I lost the war. My stomach wasn't able to accommodate the weapons of the food. Haaaaaay... Sumusuko rin ang tiyan. Dyspepsia go away later please, would you?

So what is so sexy here? Let me tell you the reason. My friend Rhea from Canada just gets sexy everyday.

And she made the ambiance so sexy. Look at her at the photo with her husband - newly wed this time.

There you have it! I just love the sexy ambiance of the restaurant. She just nailed it all the way. Anyway thanks for this big meal. Anyway you should, hahaha... That is two years now [Naiipon habang tumatagal, hehe].

Anyway thanks Rhea, I enjoyed the moment and the time we have spent together as old friends. And now, you're married! God bless your marriage life!

    [San Fernando] KFC LA Union

"There is also another Jollibee nearby but who cares. Besides, we are craving with the KFC chicken although Chicken Joy of Jollibee is also nice too."

Franchising business in the Philippines is really very healthy and vibrant because almost every city and key towns in the country are filled with fastfood chains which are all under in one name. And to note, international fastfood franchises are very plenty in the Philippines compared to other country which only have 10 branches of McDonalds and 5 KFC. The Philippines can not surely handle that being a culture linked with family bonding and food!

In a long hours of drive from Vigan to Manila, stop overs are really highly needed and they should not just be recommended.

For a long journey of 8 to 10 hours, the tummy also needs to recharge like the engine of a diesel-powered car.

The traveling gutom is now really hungry and he needs to find a restaurant. Because of the urge to eat according to necessity, the gutom traveler and his colleagues ended up at KFC fastfood in the city of San Fernando, La Union.

Along Quezon Avenue in the City of San Fernando, La Union is an array of business establishments and a lot of places to eat but the gutom travelers chose to stay at KFC Restaurant because it is the closest.

There is also another Jollibee nearby but who cares. Besides, we are craving with the KFC chicken although Chicken Joy of Jollibee is also nice too.

KFC LA Union is very accessible and there is a huge signboard that can be seen from afar.

As we enter the branch, we can see the great smile of the crew welcoming us with the usual "red" ambiance.

The order was of course the chicken bucket meal which was more than enough for the 6 of us. Sulit!

The gravy is as always, perfect for the taste!

I was also impressed with the dessert. I love the very creamy and cheesy taste and I was so glad that I even eaten the dessert of one of my colleague, haha!

We had our eating sessions at the second floor and surprisingly, we can laugh with all our lungs out and be very loud because we were the only group hanging out there. We all had the time and opportunity!

Inside KFC Restaurant in La Union, I love the ambiance although there are some mid-rise buildings with dangling wires outside that serve as an eye-sore but I don't care about what is outside as long as inside is conducive for eating.

I like the hanging things at the ceiling and of course I really can't forget that dessert!

It's time to go on our way. Thanks you KFC for the great food!
