[San Fernando] Brother's Grille: San Fernando, La Union

"At first I was so hesitant to enter the restaurant since I am intimidated with the set-up that it might be a costly store where expensive foods are served. Of course I can't afford expensive foods, I am into budget eating."

This was a very victorious mission because I have found a cheaper way to eat a big chicken with delicious spaghetti in a high-end restaurant. Compared to McDonald's Spaghetti with chicken that brought me into a mission failed in La Trinidad, Benguet at 106 pesos, Brother's Grill in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines have it in a more budget-friendly way.

The spaghetti offering was actually very plenty and I like how they prepared it with the Filipino flavor - the sweet and spicy spaghetti thing.

Aside from that, it was a combo meal with a big chicken. It was tummy satisfying I swear. For the budget, it is within our below 100 pesos (about 2 dollars) bracket at only 85 pesos compared to McDonald's 106 pesos of the same meal.

For those who are in La Union, this is the best alternative to McDonald's version since the restaurant isn't an ordinary one. Of course, there are "many" carenderias offering spaghetti and chicken for as low as 30 pesos for both but as I have said, this restaurant isn't your ordinary one. So for a high-end dining equipped with wi-fi and air-conditioning, the price is just right and what is nice here is that it is cheaper than McDonald's version of the same food.

What I loved with the chicken is that it is not very oily. I just can enjoy the crisp without worrying for the oils to spill out to my mouth while chewing the crispy skin.

The meal was actually huge that some customers nearby are talking about me (and I can hear them) that malakas akong kumain (I have a voracious appetite).

Well I didn't mind them and I don't care because I am a blogger and I will do anything, I will eat anything and go everywhere to make the best article for my readers. Those guys looking and talking against were just pathetic! It is none of their business whether I will eat it or not besides, I can afford to pay it (because it's cheap, hehe).

Brother's Grill is located along Gov. Luna St., San Fernando City, La Union. Outside the restaurant are clusters of not so good-looking shops so it was a surprise for me that I had to see a cozy restaurant in that area.

As I was touring San Fernando City downtown area, I have promised myself not go leave the city without being able to taste an affordable food until I saw Brother's Grill.

At first I was so hesitant to enter the restaurant since I am intimidated with the set-up that it might be a costly store where expensive foods are served. Of course I can't afford expensive foods, I am into budget eating.

Gladly, as I saw the list of food, Yay! There are affordable dishes and I also discovered the Halo-halo sa Buko in this restaurant.

Of course if I am entering into restaurants, I always see every detail like this one. I was also attracted with the hanging stuff out there. The restaurant gives you a privacy somehow when eating because there are dividers for each set of dining table and each corner has a hanging stuff with a light inside.

There you have eat. At 85 pesos, Mission accomplished!

[La Trinidad] Mission Failed at McDonald's La Trinidad, Benguet

"I was actually hesitant if I will be publishing this post or not because it was a failure on my part but I realized, I have also to share these things to learn from our mistakes and for others to know also what to avoid or not."

Yes, I have been reassuring my readers that all single meals featured in this blog is below 100 pesos or less than 2 dollars. But with my recent trip to La Trinidad, Benguet, my extreme hunger due to a tiring walking tour in the town has made me so exhausted that I wasn't able to decide well and just had to order a food that is easy to wait and that's why I failed with my mission this day.

McDonald's La Trinidad Benguet with the Mountains at the back

With my goal of featuring "sulit" foods in the country on a lower price, it is my first time to fail for this blog.

I was actually hesitant if I will be publishing this post or not because it was a failure on my part but I realized, I have also to share these things to learn from our mistakes and for others to know also what to avoid or not.

In fact, I was on a travel challenge for myself by traveling to 3 provinces for 1 day in looking for great yet cheap foods.

For that day, I ventured to Benguet, La Union and Candon City (in Ilocos Sur). I have to maximize my time.

But as I was doing a walking tour in La Trinidad, Benguet, I got so tired and exhausted. I was able to see a McDonald's branch in La Trinidad where I have eaten my lunch.

I ordered a chicken and a spaghetti in one worth 106 pesos and that was 7 pesos more than the goal. I supposed not to include any drinks but the crew has told me that whether or not I will claim the drinks, the prize is still the same.

So to be fair on my part, I just took the softdrinks although I have no plans to drink that.

I think not giving you a chance to exclude soft drinks in your meal for a lesser price is very unfair. Although it is a combo meal, the customer must always have the chance to exclude what he wants as long as the item is a totally different product.

That's why I blame McDonald's for this (sorry, Haha) because I have failed for this mission. If the prize of the soft drinks should have been subtracted even for only 7 pesos, I should have triumphed for the 99 pesos. Sadly, that was the rule of this fastfood branch.

In fact, I have begged the crew to just cancel the order and purchase a cheaper meal but the crew just told me that she has already entered it at the cash registry.

Well, the golden arch in this part of La Trinidad in Benguet has just taught me a lesson.

So next time I'll be going to fast foods like McDonald's better think 7X even you are hungry or else you'll be financially damaged like me who is a budget eater.
